Affiliated with the School of Letters at the University of Kyoto, The Center for Applied Philosophy and Ethics (CAPE) was founded in April 2012. We are an interdisciplinary and international institution comprised of academic staff within the School of Letters specializing in the field of applied philosophy, which liaises with researchers from related disciplines, other Schools, other universities, and countries other than Japan. CAPE organizes and systematizes professional ethics education for the Graduate school as well as sophisticated liberal arts education initiatives. Through these initiatives, we hope to function both as the Japanese base for research in applied philosophy and as the hub that connects Japan with research efforts abroad, and between Asia and Europe and the US.
We will design an ethics education program to be undertaken by all postgraduate students of the University, which nurtures not only the academic aspects of researchers and professionals but their whole person.
We will establish an international, large-scale research base for professional ethics and applied ethics and carry out research in these areas as well as related fields.
Our aim is to function as a large-scale research center for academic exchange in professional ethics and applied philosophy in East Asia, and also as a hub that connects research efforts between Asia and Europe and the US.
